Who is Aleksandra Istorik and what happened at the MUMA?

Aleksandra Istorik, an artist based in Valencia, is recognized for her artistic style called “Golden Surrealism”, which explores golden light, dreamlike symbolism, and themes such as freedom, love, and mental expansion.

In May 2025, during her Golden Surrealism exhibition at the Palau de Colomina, she created a painting representing the Mare de Déu (Our Lady of the Forsaken). This piece was later donated to the Marian Museum of Our Lady of the Forsaken (muMA) as a tribute to Valencia’s patron saint, incorporating a candle at the bottom as a symbol of peace and light for the world.

This gesture is valued for its deep symbolism: the candle not only provides physical illumination, but also acts as a metaphor for beauty, knowledge, and hope, as well as a plea for peace and the end of conflicts, especially in favor of children.

The rector of the Basilica, Juan Melchor Seguí, praised the artwork and confirmed that it will be exhibited alongside works by prominent artists such as Palomino, Vergara, Benlliure, and Renau, becoming the second donation to the museum so far this year.

In addition, the rector’s visit to Istorik’s gallery on Almirante Street coincided with the artist’s self-invitation to the Camarín de la Virgen, further strengthening the connection between her work and the religious sphere of Valencia.
